Candle Care

To ensure a clean and even burn, your candle requires proper care, which takes a little more effort. The recommendations below will assist you in getting the most out of your candles.

The First Burn

The first burn is the most important, actually, the most crucial. During the first burn you should allow your candle to reach a full melt pool prior to extinguishing. This is accomplished when the wax is melted all the way around to the edge of your jar. If your candle does not reach a full melt pool with the first burn, it will begin to tunnel which leaves unmelted and unused wax in your jar. Tunneling will lead a shorter burn life and a lot of wasted wax.

The Wick

Prior to each burn, always trim your wick to 1/4". Trimming your wick is essential to candle life. Trimming your wick is best completed by using designated wick trimmers or scissors. Wick trimmers can be located for sale in our shop under accessories. This may also be completed by simply breaking off the wick using your fingers, although this can be messy. Not trimming your wick properly can lead to several complications. First, your wick will mushroom, which will lead to excess smoke and potentially soot. Second, not trimming your wick can lead to an extreme fire hazard as the flame can become too high. Third, not trimming your wick can lead to soot build up on your jar causing your jar to turn black. Fourth, not trimming your wick can cause it to shift which can potentially heat your jar too hot and cause it to crack. If you wick begins to shift from the center of the jar, please discontinue use immediately

Burning

You should never burn your candle longer than 4 hours at a time. Burning your candle longer than 4 hours is a fire hazard as your jar can potentially over heat and in extreme cases cause it to bust. Never burn your candle unattended. Please follow all fire safety guidelines.

Appearance

Variations may be noted in the look and texture of our wax and may vary candle to candle. This is not a defect and will not affect how your candles burn. Once you have burned your candle, you extinguish it, and your wax re cools you may noticed a textured surface. Please note this is normal and will not affect the way your candle continues to burn.
